Pictures #255 thru #264

"Old Guy Scott" in picture #255, shows why he can't use the road course pan in picture #253 & #254 at update #27. In order to keep the engine looking period correct, he must use the canister type oil filter of 1957. The road course pan left no room for the canister. Figures #256 thru #258 show engine tin being cleaned and inspected for damage.

The last update #27, picture 251 shows cyl. #5 needing a sleeve. In picture #259 the sleeve has been installed and photo #260 shows the step machined in the block, this will keep the sleeve from moving downward.

The "Black Widow" used an open road draft tube, as did all the 1957 Chevys. "Old Guy Scott" uses an extra support tang, photo #261. This is necessary, because the vibrations encountered in racing can loosen this tube at the top of the block causing a leak.

Figure #264 shows the micro-polished steel crankshaft this "Black Widow" will receive. "Old Guy Scott" says this will take high R.P.M.'s without breaking. This is the racing type used back then.
